Who Are We?

New Hope Community Food Pantry is an emergency food pantry serving zip codes 60630, 60631, 60646, 60706, and 60656 on the Northwest Side of Chicago. The pantry operates out of a building, located at 6125 W. Foster Ave Chicago, IL 60630 and the hours of operation are Tuesdays from 9:30-11:30am. Donations are accepted on Mondays and Tuesdays between 8:30-12:00pm.

We have been a volunteer-driven and volunteer-run organization since November 2004.  Our volunteers make it possible to serve as many people as necessary each week.  Their commitment to creating a community where everyone is treated with respect and dignity permeates everything NHCFP undertakes.

We provide a 5-7 day supply of food to eligible families in need once per month. We seek to provide all that is needed for a well-balanced diet, although we recognize that the food we are able to distribute is only meant to supplement--not provide--all the household's needs.

We refer clients who have additional and specific needs to other available resource providers, give clients some training in nutrition and budgeting, and educate the community about hunger in our area and in the world.

Everyone is served the first time they come to the pantry, no matter where they live.  Visitors from outside these 6 ZIP codes are referred to a food pantry that operates in their locale.

More than a Pantry

Community Garden at AMITA Health Resurrection Medical Center

In 2018, the hospital provided a piece of land so that a community garden could be planted. Members of the Community Leadership Board of AMITA Health worked with Boy Scout Troop 626. The planning and carrying out of plans for Phase 1 was his project that would allow him to receive his Eagle Scout badge. Phase 2 (which took place in 2019) was carried out by another boy scout (from the same Boy Scout troop) so that he could receive his Eagle Scout badge.  We now have a community garden with 4 raised vegetable beds and 2 elevated herb beds. Both of the boy scouts have added their own touch to make this a space that people will enjoy working in. During Phase 1, about $600+ worth of vegetables were donated to our food pantry. This year, with additional crops planted, we expect to get a much bigger yield. (Get troop number 626). Crops include tomatoes, onions, squash, green beans, eggplant, carrots, beets, radishes, zucchini, cucumbers, etc.

Due to the generosity of those within our community, The New Hope Community Food Pantry receives fresh produce from the following donors: AMITA Health Resurrection Medical Center - Chicago, Park Ridge Farmers Market, and Edgebrook Lutheran Church’s garden. We are grateful to be able to provide fresh produce to our clients to help them to stay healthy.

Backpack & School Supply Program

Backpacks filled with school supplies are given out during the month of August to children to prepare them for the new academic year. Food pantry volunteers work to make sure the backpacks are filled with items the students will need. AMITA Health Resurrection Medical Center made a donation of school supplies.

Kids Summer Feeding Program

It was brought to our attention through The Greater Chicago Food Depository that many children did not have access to food over the summer. With this in mind, we partnered with The Greater Chicago Food Depository (GCFD) and AMITA Health Resurrection Medical Center to provide children 1-18 years of age with healthy lunches (Mondays through Fridays) during the months of June-August. We have run this program now for six years with Union Ridge School in Harwood Heights being our most recent partner.

Thanksgiving & Christmas Food Program

During the months of November and December, NHCFP provides additional food distributions—one for Thanksgiving, and one for Christmas. For the Thanksgiving food distribution, we provide a $10 gift card (for meat or protein) as well as the fixings for a Thanksgiving meal. For the Christmas food distribution, we also do the same thing. For Christmas, however, we have established a Toyland so that food pantry parents may select toys for their children. At Christmas, our volunteers bake home-made cookies so that we can provide a small plate of cookies to each family.

Spring Baskets

Volunteers work hard to assemble spring baskets (one per family, or 1 per child). There are no set rules for these baskets. Some contain books, some are geared specifically for children, or for older adults. We see many smiling faces as a result of the efforts of our volunteers!
