AMITA Health Resurrection Medical Center-Chicago partnering with New Hope Community Food Pantry

With the COVID-19 pandemic, food insecurities have increased dramatically. AMITA Health Resurrection Medical Center has been partnering with New Hope Community Food Pantry for over 10 years and current needs are more than ever. The food pantry is located at 7115 W. Hood St. on the Northwest side of Chicago which serves zip codes 60631, 60630, 60656, 60646, and 60706 and has seen a huge increase in food needs with the clients they serve each week. 

The nurses in Community Health, Roxane Finegan, RN, and Mariana Wrzosek, RN, Director, Community Health/Faith Community Nursing Ministry as well as Faith Community Nurses, Sue Hilger, RN, and Terri Kaisling, RN, have been working with New Hope Community Food Pantry every Monday to assist with set-up and on Tuesdays to screen all clients for COVID-19 and assist with food distribution.  On April 28, 2020, a record number of 103 clients were screened and served.  The nurses also deliver food to those who cannot make it to the pantry. So far for March and April, the nurses have screened close to 500 clients and the nurses have also donated over 400 food items to the pantry.
